Fighting for the Soviet Motherland: Recollections from the Eastern Front
Published in Hardcover by Univ of Nebraska Pr (October, 1998)
Authors: James F. Gebhardt and Dmitriy Loza
Average review score:

Red Tanks of 1941-45
Col. Loza is a Hero of the Soviet Union. He commanded Lend Lease Matildas and Shermans during the Great Patriotic War. James Gebhardt is a US veteran whose military background and command of the Russian language has enabled him to produce the most accessible book on the Eastern Front I have read. The clear explanations of Russian military terms and slang are worth the price of the book by themselves. Col. Loza explains his experience in all aspects and in depth. If you have questions about food, Lend Lease, tactical orginization, Soviet medal laws, or tank useage, this is the place to start.

General Sidney Sherman
Published in Hardcover by Texian Pr (June, 1975)
Author: W.N. Bate
Average review score:

Unique biography of a Texas Founding Father
Sidney Sherman recruited, equipped and led a group of 52 Kentuckians to fight for Texas independence, the only significant outside contingent to arrive in Texas before the culminating battle of San Jacinto. Despite being a Catholic among Freemasons, a Yankee among Southerners and a well-uniformed and sober man in a ragged and hard-drinking army, he was highly esteemed by the Texians, who elected him Colonel of one of the two regiments at San Jacinto. He led the crucial attack around the Mexican left flank that decided the battle, as well as the cavalry attack the day before that Houston chose to leave unsupported. Because of Houston's envy and malice, he never received the credit that he was due in his lifetime, and when Houston slandered him in his farewell Senate speech in 1859, most of the surviving senior officers at San Jacinto wrote a testimonial to him that Houston's hagiographers are careful to avoid looking at too closely. For as long as Houston remains an icon, Sherman will not get the historical credit he should, because if we was a hero, as indeed he was, then Houston is revealed as a malicious liar who appropriated all the credit for a battle directed by others. Bate's book is more a suggestive compilation than the major revisionist biography the subject deserves, but it fills a gaping hole in Texas historiography.

George Washington (American Presidents Reference Series.)
Published in Hardcover by CQ Press (June, 2003)
Authors: Sherman, CQ Press, and Thomas S. Langston
Average review score:

Great read...informative...funny...Great Documents
This book was a great, easy read. Nothing is off limits in this biography of Washington that explores everything from his love life to the challenges of his presidency. The authors are even sarcastic and funny at times. I also like that half the book is full of documents. I found myself reading the book and when i wanted more information, flipping to the back of the chapter and looking at the documents which included washington's list of slaves, a love letter he wrote to a girlfirend in addition to the usual documents one might suspect like his inaugural address. Everything was great about this except the price. I found it in a local library to read for free but I dont think I would shell out that much for a book.

This book is essential reading on the Asian financial crisis. It contains a judicious overview of alternative interpretations of the origins of the crisis. It then uses a computable general equilibrium model to analyze the impact of the crisis on different regions of the world, with special emphasis on the United States.

Guide to the Sacred Rose Tarot
Published in Paperback by United States Games Systems (March, 2003)
Author: Johanna Gargiulo-Sherman
Average review score:

What do those roses mean, anyway?
This book is packed full of information on Johanna's Sacred Rose deck. The artist's explanations make this strange but lovely deck a lot more accessible. She also includes some excellent spreads, info on psychic development and instructions for creating a tarot profile for your querants.

This book is in the 6 x 8ish format currently favored for books to go with Tarot decks which makes it handy for carrying in your bag. My only gripe was that I felt that some of the information could easily have been expanded. Well worth buying if you like this beautiful psychedelic deck.

Gwendolyn the Miracle Hen
Published in Hardcover by Golden Pr (June, 1961)
Authors: Nancy Sherman and Edward Sorel
Average review score:

Gwendolyn the miracle hen
The hen -- loyal to her kind farmer -- outwits a greedy old man. With her clever laying of multicolored eggs, she saves the farm. and, with her cleverness, all in rhyme. "Cluck, cluck," said Gwendolyn, "You'll see. Just leave thw hole thing up to me." My children loved this classic example of good triumphing over evil, and wittily too.

Harps on the Willow
Published in Paperback by Authorlink Press (November, 2000)
Author: P. T. Sherman
Average review score:

Back Home Too!
Harps on the Willow is a wonderfully written book of human experience. It is, at the same time, sad and humorous, bitter and sweet. Katie Ruth is much too compelling a character to let die with only one book. I sincerely hope that Ms. Sherman is writing a sequel.
